The Dream Stele of Thutmose IV, or the Sphinx Stele

The Stele is a stone or wooden slab, erected as a monument, very often for funerary or commemorative purposes.
This ornamentation may be inscribed, carved, found in different parts of the world, notably Egypt and China.
In ancient Egypt, these vertical slabs of stone depict tombstones, religious uses, and boundaries.

The Sphinx Stele, was erected in the first year of Thutmose IV' reign, 1401 BC..

As was common with other New Kingdom Pharaohs, it makes claim to a divine legitimization to pharaoh-ship.

In ancient Egypt, when pharaohs wanted to record something for eternity and have it be known not only to mortals, but more importantly, to the gods, they wrote in stone.

Dream Stele, reproduction.

The hieroglyphs carved into the Dream Stella of Thutmosis IV, an enormous upright slab at the base of the Sphinx, tell a portentous story of a young king's bargain with the sun god.

Diagram

Stele description
The Dream Stele is a vertical rectangular stele, 144 cm Ht, 40 cm W, 70 cm D. The upper scene lunette ( The lunette spatial region in the upper portion of stelas, became common for steles as a prelude to a stele's topic ), shows Thutmose IV on the right and left making offerings to the Great Sphinx.

The dream
"Now the statue of the very great Khepri [the Great Sphinx ] rested in this place, great of fame, sacred of respect, the shade of Ra resting on him. Memphis and every city on its two sides came to him, their arms in adoration to his face, bearing great offerings for his Ka. One of these days it happened that prince Thutmose came travelling at the time of midday. He rested in the shadow of this great god. Sleep and dream took possession of him, at the moment the sun was at zenith. Then he found the majesty of this noble god speaking from his own mouth like a father speaks to his son, and saying: "Look at me, observe me, my son Thutmose. I am your father Horemakhet-Khepri-Ra-Atum. I shall give to you the kingship [upon the land before the living]....[Behold, my condition is like one in illness], all [my limbs being ruined]. The sand of the desert, upon which I used to be, (now) confronts me; and it is in order to cause that you do what is in my heart that I have waited.

[The god Horem-Akhet-Khepri-Re-Atum came to him in a dream and basically told him that if he cleared away the sands that had been building up around [the Sphinx], the god would make sure that Thutmosis IV was the ruler of upper and lower Egypt, unified.]

Medical Analysis of the Stele
Recently a surgeon at Imperial College London (Dr Hutan Ashrafian) has analysed the early death of Thutmose IV and the premature deaths of other Eighteenth dynasty Pharaohs (including Tutankhamun and Akhenaten). He identifies that their early deaths was likely as a result of a Familial Temporal Epilepsy. This would account for the untimely mortality in Thutmose IV and can also explain his religious vision described on his Dream Stele due to this type of epilepsy’s association with intense spiritual visions and religiosity.

I  had collected the information from several documents and the Wikipedia.

Note
*** Thutmosis IV was the eighth king of the 18th dynasty, which is during Egypt's New Kingdom, a period when Egypt was really at its height. This area, at that time, was like a recreation area for the pharaohs. They would come here to hunt, ride their chariots, do target practice.

Hatshepsut ؛ Foremost of Noble Ladies.[Part I]حتشبسوت الملكه المصريه الفرعونيه العظيمه

What do you know about Hatchopsut?
Hatchepsut; meaning Foremost of Noble Ladies.
1508–1458 BC) was the fifth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty of Ancient Egypt. She is generally regarded by Egyptologists as one of the most successful pharaohs, reigning longer than any other woman of an indigenous Egyptian dynasty.

Her Reign
Hatshepsut was given a reign of about twenty-two years by ancient authors .
Although it was uncommon for Egypt to be ruled by a woman, the situation was not unprecedented.

In comparison with other female pharaohs, Hatshepsut's reign was much longer and prosperous. She was successful in warfare early in her reign, but generally is considered to be a pharaoh who inaugurated a long peaceful era. She re-established trading relationships lost during a foreign occupation and brought great wealth to Egypt. That wealth enabled Hatshepsut to initiate building projects that raised the calibre of Ancient Egyptian architecture to a standard, comparable to classical architecture, that would not be rivaled by any other culture for a thousand years.

Her Building projects
Hatshepsut was one of the most prolific builders in ancient Egypt, commissioning hundreds of construction projects throughout both Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt, that were grander and more numerous than those of any of her Middle Kingdom predecessors. Later pharaohs attempted to claim some of her projects as their's.

During her reign she employed the great architect Ineni, who also had worked for her father, and her husband.

[Ineni was an Ancient Egyptian architect and government official of the 18th Dynasty, responsible for major construction projects under the pharaohs Amenhotep I,Thutmose I, Thutmose II and the joint reigns of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III.
He  came from an aristocratic family. He had many titles, including Superintendent of the Granaries, Superintendent of the Royal Buildings, Superintendent of the Workmen in the Karnak Treasuries.]

Some of her projects :
*Following the tradition of most pharaohs, Hatshepsut had monuments constructed at the Temple of Karnak.
*She also restored the original Precinct of Mut, the ancient great goddess of Egypt, at Karnak that had been ravaged by the foreign rulers during the Hyksos occupation. It later was ravaged by other pharaohs, who took one part after another to use in their pet projects and awaits restoration.
*She had twin obelisks, at the time the tallest in the world, erected at the entrance to the temple. One still stands, as the tallest surviving ancient obelisk on Earth; the other has broken in two and toppled.
*Karnak's Red Chapel, or Chapelle Rouge :have stood between her two obelisks. It was lined with carved stones that depicted significant events in Hatshepsut's life.
*She later ordered the construction of two more obelisks to celebrate her sixteenth year as pharaoh; one of the obelisks broke during construction, and thus, a third was constructed to replace it. The broken obelisk was left at its quarrying site in Aswan, where it still remains. Known as The Unfinished Obelisk, it demonstrates how obelisks were quarried.
*Following the tradition of many pharaohs, the masterpiece of Hatshepsut's building projects was her mortuary temple. She built hers in a complex at Deir el-Bahri. It was designed and implemented by Senemut at a site on the West Bank of the Nile River near the entrance to what now is called the Valley of the Kings because of all the pharaohs who later chose to associate their complexes with the grandeur of hers. Her buildings were the first grand ones planned for that location .

For the second part
Thank you

Women in the era of the Pharaohs

You can know the progress of peoples and nations from the status of women in society and their position and prestige and their rights compared to men and their independence from men.

In Pharaonic Egypt women had enjoyed almost full equality with men ,and great respect,Social status determined by the level of the person in social hierarchy rather than gender,Egyptian women enjoyed more freedom, rights and privileges compared to what women had known in Greeks.

Multitude of goddesses (the feminine gods) won sanctification through the history of Egypt. Was to show disrespect to a woman, according to the law (Ma'at) means the opposing the foundations of the Egyptian beliefs and ubiquity.

The Egyptians had Authorized for a woman to become the heir of the throne, but the man who she had chosen to be her husband, would become a ruler or Pharaoh. and Her mission was to preserve the royal blood and its continuity.

The women enjoyed many of the legal rights and the civil rights , such as participation in trade transactions, business dealings and ownership of land and the private real estate, management and sale.

Women had the right to arrange adoptions, and the liberation of slaves, and the formulation of legal settlements, and the conclusion of contracts. They were testify in court, and doing claims against other parties, and represent themselves in legal disputes without the presence of a relative or a representative of the men.During the Pharaonic era women won their full rights in marriage and inheritance.

They were allowed to get professional jobs such as knitting and sewing, midwife and counselor for the Pharaoh, and were able to also took over senior positions in the temple, such asdancers or High Priestessa position deep respect.

As for the social situation it was not surprising or prohibited to rise a working woman in terms of social status or position. Among the famous women( from outside the royal family), a woman named (Benet). Was married to a governor of one of the provinces during the reign of the Sixth Dynasty. That lady has got the highest position surnames, the titles of the ruler, and the judge and the Minister of the pharaoh.

It was available for women to work as writers, doctors, but their numbers were less than their male counterparts.
Stated in the Ancient records the names of doctors of the Old Kingdom. Of these doctors Mrs.(Baishest) that lived during the reign of the Fifth Dynasty, and carried the title (President of Physicians) according to the inscription on her grave.
Women's access to the title of writer made them hold the most senior ,and highest positions such as accountant in Pharaonic palace or the store directors, and manager and the work of many women in thetrade and management of stores temples.

Equality between the gender was something normal and innate in ancient Egyptian society, even in the countryside but without an exaggeration, and to preserve the woman's basic role as a mother and wife and housewife.

The graphics of the era that showed women as workers in the field helping their husband in the harvest, like a man if it was needed.

And also in education each girl child was born in the upper layer or in the Royal family should start teaching such as any of the boys in the fourth year of life .

Girls as boys were learning to read and write hieroglyphs and ancient Egyptian literature and letters in a simple form of ancient Egyptian writing of hieroglyphics,to be used in everyday life and not used in official and religious texts, as in the hieroglyphs.
Daughters of kings and princes, had the right to learn the full curriculum, which contains the principles and basics of mathematics and engineering.

There is a saying of one of the Elders of Ancient Egypt:

If you are looking for wisdom and happiness, love your wife and your partner ,take care of her and she will take care of you and treat your home and caring for your children, and with love. Take care of her as long as you are alive because she is a gift and a blessing from the God, who responded to your prayer . Enjoy this blessing because the sanctification of the gift of God is what pleases your Lord.
Feel her passion before her because she is the mother of your children .If you made her happy, she will delight your children If you look after her ,she would take care of them. She is a trust in your heart and your hands and you are responsible about her to the God because you took on yourself a promise in front of the God,that you will be a brother and a father and a partner and a friend of your wife and lover.

Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses

The Spirits of Life
for the Ancient Egyptians
The Nile Valley was split up into about forty self ruling areas (later to be provinces - so called nomes) where the ruling tribes had their own deities.
From the dualism of all gods it's clear that animals were the first to get divine status and by time got human form.
Because of this all gods had two things in common - they were family members with counterparts from the opposite sex and manifested themselves on earth through animals.
Thus the local wild fauna of birds, crocodiles, snakes, turtles, frogs, plus cattle, dogs, cats and other domesticated animals were considered to be the living images of a particular god or goddess and a natural and indestructible part of the environment in which people lived.

All parts of life were covered and there were gods for - beer, plants, digestion, the high seas, female sexuality, gardens, partying etc. Many of them had lots of duties and were with time combined with each other in a great number of ways.
Some of them could appear in an unusual forms like a goddess (curious even by Egyptian standards) having a head of a bee and body from a hippopotamus.
Different towns struggled to have just their local gods at top of the state religion and thus we have many different religious legends over the years depending upon which town had the greatest politi-cal influence during the period.

That was a short introduction .
Here are some important Gods and Goddesses

Amun - King of the Gods

His other names : Amen, Ammon, Amon, Amoun
Among the Egyptian gods and goddesses, Amun is considered the most important. He was a creator god, and generations of pharaohs adopted him as their patron deity. His name even appears in the names of pharaohs, such as Tutankhamun.

Amun, whose name means "Hidden", was originally worshipped locally in Thebes. When Thebes conquered neighboring states, Amun grew to become a national deity throughout Egypt.

As Amun's importance grew, he was declared to be King of the Gods, and many temples were built in his name in places such as Karnak and Luxor.

At one point, he was also combined with the sun god Ra to form Amun-Ra, the almighty god of the sun and creation.

Anubis - God of the Dead
He is represented as a man with the head of a jackal.

Bes - God of Protection, the goddess Bastet
Bes was a uniquegod. Unlike the other Egyptian gods and goddesses, who were depicted in noble positions and likenesses, Bes was usually pictured to be a dwarf with a large head, stumpy legs and a generally ugly look.
Like the goddess Bastet, Bes was also the patron god of music and dancing, and was associated with other feminine aspects such as childbirth.
Bes also had a protective aspect, and statues of him could be seen in homes, guarding the family against evil spirits and animals.

Geb - God of Earth
Other names : Keb, Seb
His parents were Shu, god of the air, and Tefnet, goddess of the rain. His sister and wife was Nut, goddess of the sky.

Hapi - God of the Nile
He had green-skinned and with a woman's breasts, representing the fertility and life-giving resources of the river.

Hathor - Goddess of Life
Other names : Athyr, Het Hert.
She is often depicted as a cow, or a woman with a cow's head, or a woman with the horns of a cow and a solar disc on her head. The majority of records describe her as the goddess of women, childbirth, happiness and anything to do with the joy of life, and also the protector of Horus [ considered the mother of Horus, and by extension the mother of the pharaoh.].
However, as the influence of the goddess Isis grew, Hathor's role as Horus' mother was absorbed by Isis, as were the roles of other Egyptian goddesses.

Horus - The Falcon God
Other names :Heru, Hor
Horus is one of the more important Egyptian gods. He is usually depicted as a man with the head of a falcon , or sometimes as a falcon as well. He is also depicted as a falcon encircling the head of the pharaoh with his wings.

Some describe the Egyptian god Horus as the dutiful son of Osiris and Isis. When the evil god Set murdered Osiris, Horus avenged his father and killed Set.

Isis - The Mother Goddess
The Egyptian goddess Isis, commonly described as the sister and wife of Osiris and mother of Horus, is the most important of the Egyptian goddesses. Her cult was the biggest, spreading the farthest among all the Egyptian gods, as far as Europe and Persia.
Isis is commonly depicted as a seated queen suckling and cradling the baby Horus.Isis was considered the mother goddess, watching over the pharaoh and the throne. As her influence and following grew over the centuries, Isis' portfolio grew to include many other attributes, such as goddess of magic, queen of the underworld and goddess of agriculture.

Nut - The Sky Goddess
Nut was the daughter of Shu, the Egyptian god of air, and Tefnut, goddess of water. She was also the sister and wife of Geb, god of the earth.
Nut's domain was the sky, and she was commonly pictured as a naked woman arching over the earth, with her hands and feet touching the ground. Her body is usually sky-colored and filled with stars. She is also sometimes depicted as a cow. Some stories tell of Nut swallowing the sun in the evening, and giving birth to it in the morning.
Nut is famous for being the mother of some of the most important egyptian gods: Osiris, Isis, Set and Nephthys. The story of Ra mentions the sun god Ra forbidding Nut to bear any children, for fear of them taking his throne from him. But Nut sought the help of the wise god Thoth, and managed to give birth to her four children.

Osiris - The Egyptian God of the Underworld
Osiris is among the most important Egyptian gods, having a cult following that grew beyond Egypt's borders. Modern-day Egypt still celebrates festivals dedicated to him. Osiris is usually depicted as a mummy wearing the Atef crown with a crook and flail in his hands.
Osiris is said to be the Egyptian god that brought civilization and agriculture to Egypt. It was he who taught the people how to farm and harvest grain. As such, he was worshipped as a god of agriculture.

Ra - The Sun God
Other names : Re
Another of the most important Egyptian gods, Ra represented the creative force of the sun.
Many myths credit Ra to be the first of the gods, creating the world from a watery chaos.

Set - God of Chaos
The Egyptian god Set is most commonly portrayed as a man with a demonic head, resembling that of an aardvark [ pig].

There are many Gods and Goddesses still but it will be very long for the post .
There are Thoth - God of Wisdom ,Ma'at - Goddess of Truth,Nekhebet - Goddess of Upper Egypt ,and Nephthys - Mistress of the Dead and others.

I had colected some in on board in a simple way to be easy to remember . I hope you will like it.

Khafra the Pharaoh

Khafre He was an Egyptian pharaoh of the Fourth dynasty, who had his capital at Memphis. According to some authors he was the son and successor of Khufu, but it is more commonly accepted that Djedefre was Khufu's successor and Khafra was Djedefre's. Khafra has two chief wives , Queen Meresankh III whose mastaba tomb is located at Giza , and Queen Khamaerernebty I who was the mother of his successor, Menkaura. Khafre was the builder of the second largest pyramid in the Giza. His pyramid is 3 metres shorter than Khufu's pyramid. He was mentioned as the builder of the Great Sphinx.
His name, Khaf-Ra, means "Appearing like Ra" for some translators and "rise Ra!" for others.
[ most probably was a son of king Khufu and the brother and successor of Djedefre. ].
Khafre had several wives and he has at least 12 sons and 3 or 4 daughters. One of them was Queen Khamerernebty she was the mother of Menkaure[the builder of the third pyramid ] and his principal queen Khamerernebty II.

Reign
It is blank. Some believe it was between 24 to 26 years, and others exaggerated his reign as 66 years.

Pyramid complex
  • Khafra built the second largest pyramid at Giza. The Egyptian name of the pyramid was Wer(en)-Khafre which means "Khafre is Great". The pyramid has a subsidiary pyramid, labeled GII a. It is not clear who was buried there. Sealing have been found of a King's eldest son of his body etc and the Horus name of Khafre.
  • Valley Temple: The valley temple of Khafre was located closer to the Nile and would have stood right next to the Sphinx temple.
  • Mortuary Temple :The mortuary temple was located very close to the pyramid.
  • Great Sphinx and Sphinx temple :The sphinx is said to date to the time of Khafre .The spinx is designed to show the head of a man [pharaoh ] on a body of lion . The designer wanted to say that that man is strong and brave like the lion. Some also said that the face of sphinx is the same as Khafra

I collected that stories from my studies and searches.I hope it is useful.
