Syria (Syrian Arab Republic) is an Arab country,located at the eastern side of the Mediterranean.At an important site between east and west.
Thus, the land of Syria had seen some of the oldest and most important civilizations on earth, as evidenced by the enormous archaeological discoveries dating back to more than eight thousand years BC.

Prehistory 

Since approximately 10 000 BC Syria was one of centers of Neolithic culture where agriculture and cattle breeding appeared for the first time in the world. At the time of the pre-pottery Neolithic people used vessels made of stone, gyps and burnt lime. Finds of obsidian tools from Anatolia are evidences of early trade relations.

Archaeologists have demonstrated that civilization in Syria was one of the most ancient on earth.

Around the excavated city of Ebla(Idlib Governorate, Syria) in northern Syria,the scientists discovered in 1975 a great Semitic empire, spread from the Red Sea north to Turkey and east to Mesopotamia from 2500 to 2400 BCE.

Ebla

Ebla appears to have been founded around 3000 BCE and gradually built its empire through trade with the cities of Sumer and Akkad, as well as with peoples to the northwest. Gifts from Pharaoh found during excavations confirm Ebla's contact with Egypt. Scholars believe the language of Ebla to be among the oldest known written Semitic languages.

Ebla was conquered by Sargon of Akkad(Sargon the Great)the city was restored as the nation of the Amorites a few centuries later and flourished through the early second millennium BCE until conquered by the Hittites.

During the second millennium BCE, Syria was occupied successively by Canaanites, Phoenicians, and Arameans as part of the general disruptions associated with the Sea Peoples. Egyptians, Sumerians, Assyrians, Babylonians, and Hittites variously occupied the strategic ground of Syria during this period, as it was a marchland between their various empires.

Land of Canaan: was a historical region roughly corresponding to modern-day Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and the western parts of Jordan and Syria. 

Phoenicia: was an ancient civilization in Canaan which covered most of the western, coastal part of the Fertile Crescent.Now Lebanon & The current Syrian coast,in the area already known for its cedars.

The Aramaeans: or Arameans were a Northwest Semitic semi-nomadic and pastoralist people who originated in what is now modern Syria during the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age.

The Sea Peoples: were a confederacy of seafaring raiders of the second millennium BC who sailed into the eastern Mediterranean, caused political unrest, and attempted to enter or control Egyptian territory during the late 19th dynasty and especially during year 8 of Ramesses III of the 20th Dynasty. 

The Fertile Crescent:nicknamed "The Cradle of Civilization" for the fact the first civilizations started there, is a crescent-shaped region containing the comparatively moist and fertile land of otherwise arid and semi-arid Western Asia .It extends almost from the land around the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to include Egypt and theNile Valley within it. 

Ancient History

Eventually the Persians took control of Syria as part of their general control of Southwest Asia; this control transferred to the Greeks after Alexander the Great's conquests (after whose death hegemony of Syria passed from the Antigonids and subsequently the Seleucids) and from thence to the Romans and the Byzantines.

ما قبل التاريخ

قد أثبت علماء الآثار أن الحضارة في سورية كانت واحدة من اقدم الحضارات على الأرض. فمنذ ما يقرب من عشرة آلاف سنه كانت سوريا احد مراكز الثقافة فى العصر الحجري الحديث حيث الزراعة وتربية الماشية ظهرت للمرة الأولى في العالم.

فىهذا العصر- عصر ما قبل الفخار (اى قبل استعمال الفخار كآنيه )اعتاد الناس على إستخدام الأدوات و الآنيه المصنوعه من الجبس و الحجر الجيرى . و قد عٌثر ايضا على ادوات مصنوعه من الزجاج البركاني الأسود الذى كانت تشتهر به الأناضول وهذا يدل على  وجودعلاقات تجارية في وقت مبكر.

كشفت الحفريات في شمال سوريا عام 1975 عن امبراطورية سامية عظيمة ، تمتد من البحر الأحمر شمالا و شرقا الى تركيا و بلاد ما بين النهرين من 2400 الى 2500 سنه ق م .

قصر ايبلا الملكى

إبلا أو إيبلا

هى مدينة أثرية سورية قديمة كانت مملكة عريقة وقوية ازدهرت في شمال غرب سورية في منتصف الألف الثالث قبل الميلاد، وبسطت نفوذها على المناطق الواقعة بين هضبة الأناضول شمالًا وشبه جزيرة سيناء جنوبًا، ووادي الفرات شرقًا وساحل المتوسط غربًا، وبنيت تدريجيا امبراطوريتها من خلال التجارة مع مدن سومر و اكاد، وكذلك مع الشعوب في شمال غرب البلاد.

و قد عثر على هدايا من فرعون مصر مما يؤكد وجود علاقات قديمه بين إيبلا و مصر الفرعونيه منذ فجر التاريخ .

و يعتقدالعلماء أن لغة إيبلا من بين أقدم اللغات السامية المكتوبة و المعروفة .

التاريخ القديم

في نهاية المطاف سيطرالفرس على سورية كجزء من سيطرتهم العامه على جنوب غرب آسيا، وقد نقلت السلطه بعد ذلك إلى الإغريق بعدالفتوحات الاسكندر الاكبر ومن ثم إلى الرومان والبيزنطيين.

تاريخ سوريه طويل وحافل و قد انشأت العديد من الممالك على ارضها على مر التاريخ وقامت العديد من الحضارات مثل الحضاره السومريه و الاكاديونو الأموريون ثم البابليون و الآراميون و الآشوريون و كذلك الفرس و اليونان و الرومان

و عبرت سوريه الى التاريخ العربى الإسلامى ومر عليها عدة عهود مثل العهد الراشدى و الأموى و الأيوبى ثم المماليك و العثمانيين تم عوده مره اخرى الى الإحتلال فاحتلتها انجلترا و فرنسا حتى نالت استقلالها من الإحتلال الفرنسى عام 1946 م

وكانت الوحده مع مصر(الجمهوريه العربيه المتحده) من 22 فبراير عام 1958 و حتى 28 سبتمبر عام 1961
